Sodium Channel - "Reverse Obvious" EP, Self Published

in

I’m standing in a field of bright orange poppies, beneath a Technicolor blue sky. Look! Over there on that hill! A little fat girl dancing in a bumblebee suit! At first listen, or at least for the first song, Sodium Channel seems to be reviving all the lost techniques of early nineties grunge - soaring highs and abrupt lows, acoustic breaks with dreamy vocals followed by onslaughts of distorted riffery, sudden minor key dips during the bridge… that said, they grow better and more innovative with each song. Silt is a deliciously slow, heavy groove number, and Novocaine is an unashamed, grungy little rocker, both of which outshine the previous two songs to a point that I barely remember them. Besides, we’ve been reviving the eighties for too long. Isn’t it time for the nineties to make a comeback?
